3D Printers for 7 Hills

Donation protected
Hello!

My name is Paul Gross, and I'm teaching a new Robotics course at Seven Hills Middle School in Nevada City. This is part of the UC Davis C-Stem Project which focuses on programming robots!  We will be receiving robots like those shown (minus the plastic colored pieces).

The students are very excited about the robots, but they are quite limited until we can begin printing extra pieces for them on a 3D printer.  It is our goal to raise enough money to purchase 3d printing technology like the Ultimaker 2 Go:  it's mobile and will go from classroom to classroom!

Who will be using the printers?

Everybody! The printers will be available to all students at Seven Hills, across all grade levels, as well as in a district wide 3D printing club. They will be valuable for many subjects. For example, the printers will be used heavily by the science department to create models for demonstrating physical science. The math department will have access to create models for demonstrating the surface area and volume of 3D shapes. A mobile printer will be periodically brought into all classrooms to spark interest in technology and to practice using the engineering process. Each teacher will receive a customized print for display or use in their classroom. All the technology will be available for all students, and will complement the existing 3D printer at Deer Creek. One of the printer’s primary purposes is to print parts that will “unlock” our robotics curriculum.

Why?

Our schools have some catching up to do to provide a 21st century education. The portable printer will be moved from classroom to classroom for demonstrations and to get students interested in STEAM. The next step with our robotics program is to increase our robots’ functionality with printed parts. The robotics course will be teaching students C++. This will be a major step for us. These things are really going to get families in our community excited about our school, and will get students interested in technology.

The goals for this program are to:

-teach real world skills (C++ programing, engineering skills, teamwork, troubleshooting)
-increase technology interest in our students
-support the growth of STEAM in our school

This will make an incredible difference in the quality of education our students are receiveing and really get students interested in science and STEAM.  Our students and teacher will be so thankful and excited to have this major addition for the school.

Thank you SO much for any contributions. No matter how small, they will be put to good use.
