Peeka's Biopsy

Donation protected
My name is Kylie Landry, and Peeka Kale is my three-legged dog.

In mid-December, I took Peeka in for her annual exam.  There, she got her yearly shots and blood work.  Her blood tests came back with abnormal liver enzyme levels.

Two weeks later, she was taken to the vet to spend the day so she could get blood tests every three hours (Bile Acids Test).  Today, I received the results.  Peeka's liver enzymes are SIX times the normal level which could indicate a number of things, the worst being liver failure.  Best case scenario, it could be congenital and treated with medication.  Unfortunately, the only way to get these results is through a biopsy that can range between $1000-1200.  Results also may be achievable through an abdominal ultrasound, but it is not guaranteed.  For cost purposes, a biopsy seems like the best option.

In addition to her liver issue, Peeka is in need of a wheelchair.  She sustained trauma to both of her legs when the car hit her, and her remaining knee stays out of socket.  Because of this, we cannot go on walks.  Both of her arms are strong, so we believe that a wheelchair could make her completely mobile again.

I am 100% certain that if you've met Peeka, she has impacted your life in a positive way.  She is a miracle dog.  I am asking that if you can donate anything, please do.  No amount is too little.  I am hoping to get these tests done within the next few weeks so treatment can be sought if necessary.

Help me give Peeka the life she deserves!

Thank you, and we love you!

Here is Peeka's full story for those of you who don't know it:
One night in November 2014, Iberia Parish Animal Control received a phone call. They were told that a small dog with a mangled leg lay near the shoulder of a busy road in New Iberia, Louisiana. They responded to the call and met Peeka. Animal Control thought that she couldn't be saved, but when a woman picked her up, Peeka licked her hand. So touched by this, they rushed her to a nearby vet where her leg was amputated.

Fast forward over two months. Peeka's future mom and best friend, Kylie, was fervently searching the Internet for the perfect pet. She had met several at local shelters, but none really clicked- until she saw Peeka's picture. She quickly called the shelter only to find out that Peeka had been "adopted". Frantic, Kylie felt defeated. Then, not even 30 seconds later, she received a phone call that said that they were mistaken, and Peeka was still adoptable.

Kylie rushed to New Iberia 2 days later to meet Peeka. She was extremely nervous that Peeka might not like her, or worse: she wouldn't like Peeka. When the door opened, all ten pounds of her limped over to Kylie. She reached down and picked Peeka up, and she knew. They were meant for each other. On January 17, 2015, Kylie became Peeka's mother.
