Our son Juaquin is 2 years old and was born with a deformity in the shape of his skull, called sagittal craniosynostosis . This is where the bones in his head solidified too soon and caused an abnormal shape to accomidate the brain. Well it's now creating pressure on his brain, from lack of space.
The doctors need to operate to relieve the pressure and reshape his skull to allow his brain to develop correctly. There are too many serious risks involved if we don't go forth with the procedure.
All parents love their children and are happy with the gift God has blessed them with. If it were purely cosmetic, we wouldn't even bother with the surgery. However the fused bones in his skull don't allow his brain to develop normally and the doctors say the best time to perform the 6-hour surgury is now, before any lasting damage is done.
Because he's only 2 years old and they are operating on his skull there are many potential complications. The surgeons say that he will be in the hospital for at least two weeks until he is recovered enough to send home. We live in El Paso, Texas and the surgery will be done in San Antonio, Texas - several hours away - since they surgury cannot be done in El Paso. This is obviously an expense we hadn't counted on and we have two other young children at home to care for.
So we are asking for some help with expenses like hotel stay for those two weeks since we have our other children. (If it were just us we'd stay in the hospital the whole time). We don't have a reliable vehicle of our own right now so we will need to rent a vehicle. We also need help to pay for food and transportation.
Its never easy asking others for help but since the surgery is in January its really the only option that we can think of. Your generosity is greatly appreciated. We are obviously worried sick about our little boy and the financial stress on top of worrying about his health is a huge burden.
We can't stand the thought of our little boy going through such a scary experience like an operation on his skull without his parents being by his bedside.
