Last month a cat rescuer from Caroline County sent out a request for help to area rescue groups . An elderly man had passed away leaving more than thirty kitties that he had been feeding. They were used to him so, for the most part, they are friendly. Although the rescuer has caught twenty-five or so and taken them to be spayed or neutered (many of them have been adopted!), there are still approximately twenty-two left to be captured and fixed. This wonderful woman now needs our help!
On Thursday, March 20, Donna and Deloris of Meow Stories went down to demonstrate the use of the "drop trap" to volunteers, and to use it to assist in the capture of five cats.
It should be noted that the deceased was living in rough conditions. Although he had two RVs and several trucks, he was a "hoarder" and all the vehicles were full to their tops with "stuff". He was sleeping in the front seat of a truck. But from the beautiful condition and sweet dispositions of the cats, you can tell he was kind.
Most of the cats are white, calico, or gray. There are lots of bobtails and most of them are pretty friendly. Because of the dirty conditions and the lovable demeanor of the cats we will be trying to get as many adopted or placed in rescues as we can. That means to be fully vetted they will need to be spayed/neutered, vaccinated, and tested for FIV/Felv (so far all have come back negative). The cost equals out to about $89 per cat. Meow Stories has been collecting funds for spaying and neutering these kitties. Donations accepted for the Caroline County cats are held and used specifically for this purpose. Just include a note or write on the check that the donations are for Caroline County Cats.
