I started fundraising to travel to Taiji almost 2 years ago but having climbed Snowdon, I didn't want to ask for donations for this also. However, although I'm planning another fundraiser this year for Dolphin Project, I would now like to start fundraising again to get myself to Japan. Thank you to everyone who has donated so far but I still have a long way to go.
So, here's why I need your help.....
Every year in Japan, over 20,000 dolphins are slaughtered or captured then sold to aquariums or marine parks such as SeaWorld for our so called 'entertainment'. I was deeply moved beyond words by the atrocities that take place in the small town of Taiji after watching the award winning documentary, 'The Cove'
2 & a half years ago, starring, my now dear friend, Richard O'Barry. A small group of fishermen drive the pods into the 'cove' where they then drive metal rods into their spines, a process that isn't humane in any way, shape or form, and a process that leaves the dolphins suffering for at least 10 minutes, besides that, the babies are often torn from their mothers sides & sold to marine parks or museums for a life of pure misery or thrown back into the sea without their mothers where they undoubtedly, won't survive. It's beyond cruel. They also state that this is a tradition in Japan, but it isn't. Many Japanese people have never even heard about the atrocities that happen every year from Sept -March.
Since watching the Cove, I have attended many demonstrations in London, outside the Japanese Embassy to highlight the plight of these cetaceans but I'd like to do much more.
Dolphins are one of the most intelligent & beautiful beings on this planet. I would like to volunteer to go to Japan to stand alongside other like minded souls to help highlight the plight of these dolphins & to contribute to bringing these horrendous crimes against one of the most incredible beings, to an end. I simply don't have the funds readily available (I have 3 children, 2 of which are 5) & many financial commitments, however I'd like to make this a reality & I'd like to think that others feel the same way about the dolphins plight & would help me get to Taiji. I'm not under any illusion that it's going to be pleasant, but it's something I need to do. Please help me raise my target to pay for my flights, bed & board so that I may stand alongside other Cove monitors & so I can look back when I'm old & grey & think to myself that I did as much as I could for these dolphins. Please note that if I am unable to make a significant amount to travel to Taiji, I will donate what I have raised to Ric O' Barry's Dolphin Project. Any donation would be much appreciated, thank you.
