ACFYA Uganda Missions Subsidy Fund

$3,433 of $14,000 goal

Raised by 23 people in 60 months

My name is Jessica Chibueze and I'm a 20-year old Nigerian-American who has a passion for impacting Africa as a way of learning about my herritage even though I am a citizen of the diaspora. I've been going to Uganda for the past three years and have since developed a burning desire to help other young people (especially African young people) who may be financially burdened to find an avenue to come with me! After much consideration, I decided that the best way to achieve this was to create a fund that I can tap into to help personally subsidze the cost of a going a mission to Uganda through the African Christian Fellowship of America.

Since this 501c3 organization started going to missions trips to their various African countries, the mission field has been dominated with Christian adults. After going on mission trips with ACF for the past three years, I have finally understood that this should not be the case. As young people who are more enegertic than our elders, so much more work could be done on these trips if we were funded the opportunity to go. The amazing experiences of helping dispense medecine to sick villagers, empowering young people to stay in school despite the obstacles they face due to their poor government or financial sturggles, and running around with 100s of kids as a way to keep them busy as their parents are being seen by the doctor may be trivial to some people, but honestly these actions are life-changing! Not only that, as the upcoming generation of leaders and influential people are going to emerge from my generation, building world experiences as a way to demolish things like ethnocentrism, racism, and other negative ideals that we may unintentially possess is a way to train us for the future! After my first trip to Uganda, I knew that I wanted to work in International Developmet in my post graduate career. I obtained my minor in Nonprofit organizational studies, and am currently the Regional Young Adult Missions Coordinator for the African Christian Fellowship East Region.

ACF goes to Uganda and provides medical attention to villagers who can not afford to go to the hospital. We hire doctors and nurses who speak their native langauages to administer outpaitent check-ups to them. ACF buys all medecine and medical supplies for these medical outreach programs. This year, this organization completed building an outpaitent medical clinic in Fort Portal, Uganda and it is scheduled to start running this July. In addition to our medcial outreach programs, ACF sponsors children in Uganda whose parents were killed by AIDS. Each year, our team visits these sponsored children and brings them gifts, letters, toys, etc.

The cost for one person to go to Uganda with the Eastern Region of African Christian Fellowship is $3,000. Although when the cost is broken down this turns out to be a very reasonable amount, $3,000 is still a daunting amount for the average high school, undergraduate, and even post graduate student to fundraise.

This $3,000 covers EVERYTHING for a two-week trip:
-Round Trip flight to Uganda
-All room and board for the duration of the trip
-All food
-Ground transportation for the whole trip, etc.

In addition to all of one's personal needs being covered, this $3,000 helps our missions team to purchase medecine for the Ugandan citizens that we treat during out medical mission programs, it helps us to hire Ugandan doctors and nurses that attend to the Ugandan people, it helps us to buy the ingredients we use to cook meals for the hundreds of citizens after they've seen the doctors and have been prescribed medecine.

I intend to raise $10,000 to kick off this subsidy fund. My utlimate goal is to continuously grow this fund to the point where ACF mission trips will no longer cost $3,000 dollars for a young person because we would be able to cover some of their costs. Young people should not be hindered in wanting to travel, experience the world, and help the less fortunate just because they may be unemployed or are too timid to fundraise large amounts of money.

In addition to the $10,000 I want to raise for this fund, I have to fundraise my own $3,000 in order to travel once again this year. The remaining $1,000 amount is the cost to fund a public health intiative I started in 2012 of bathing young children and clothing them on the mission field.

In 2012 when I first started, I bathed and clothed 20 children.

In 2013, I was able to reach 60 children.

This summer, my target goal is 100 kids.
And as an act of sustainabilty, I would like to raise enough supplies that can euip them to remain hygienic for up to one year. this will give me time to continue to think of ways to solidify this public health program within the next couple of years.

Any amount you donate would be awesome for me and this goal of mine! Trying to shape the future leaders of the world by letting them be able to travel around it and at the same time giving them an amazing opportunity to strengthen their relationship with God would be made possible with every dollar you donate!

I thank you in advance for helping me make this possible.

Sincerely,
Jessica Chibueze

So on Sunday, I was blessed enough to go to this event that allowed black women in the DMV to advertise this businesses and sell their products. I sold a couple items from dresses and on top of that I told somebody about Uganda and she donated $100!!!!

It's the occurrences like this that give me hope that even with only just months left before I go to Uganda, that something crazy will happen and I will raise this money!

I know I sound crazy, but I have faith for this! Even when the odds don't seem to be in my favor.
