Help support my Autistic Brother

Donation protected
In short, my mum is a single parent and the full time carer for my autistic brother.  She has been diagnosed with with ovarian cancer, and we need assistance to pay for full time carers for my brother while she undergoes treatment on the other side of the world.

My family and I are all from North Wales in the UK. At 34 years old, I am the youngest of three sons. My eldest brother Simeon is 43. Simeon (Simmy) has autism, and growing up he loved  having two younger brothers to play with and look after (he was the one who taught us how to tie our shoelaces!). He is the most loving and gentle human being I have ever known and despite the difficulties we have been faced with over the years I wouldn't change him for the world. The saddest thing is that Simmy knows he is different. All he ever wanted was to live like any other regular person, getting married and having children of his own. He knows this will never happen but can't fully understand why.

Mum has been Simmy's full time carer his entire life, and for more than 10 years she has done it without the help of my brother and I after we moved to Australia.
The plan was always that we would settle out here and then Mum would sell up and join us with Simmy but sadly it wasn't to be.

Now at 68 and with just the state pension on which to live, Mum has continued to struggle to cope with the stresses of looking after Simmy while her health deteriorated. On top of failing eyesight and the pains of getting old, Mum has now been diagnosed with Ovarian Cancer.

She is in hospital and staring down the barrel of chemo and surgery, leaving a huge question mark over Simmy's future care. Social services have said the best they can do is to put Simmy into a facility but that is not at all suitable for him. He is a timid, quiet and gentle person who gets extremely scared in the presence of strangers - especially when there are others around him with more severe mental disabilities. While we would love to have him live with us, Australian immigration law won't allow it. We are desperate to provide Simmy with the level of care he needs but Social Services simply will not provide that level of support as they do not look at people as individual cases - just boxes that are either ticked or unticked.

Mum has only a small group of friends of a similar age to call on and while they have been great, it's not a long term solution.  The department of Social Services is doing everything they can to cut back what little support they do provide (in the form of carers that take Simmy out for a day here and there).

As a last resort, we are turning to GoFundMe and the good people of the world. If we can get through to enough people to spare even just a few dollars, then we will be able to provide Simmy with the life that he deserves, while allowing Mum to focus on her fight without also having to wory about what will happen to her son.
