The Irish Club of WA must be saved!
The Irish Club of WA was established over 60 years ago, and has been in its current location in Subiaco since the ‘70s. Just like a sporting club, The “owners” of the Irish Club are the members. It is an Incorporated Association, run by a voluntary Management Committee elected by members each year at the AGM. The object of the Club is to promote Irish culture and heritage in WA - i.e. music, sport, dance, language, theatre, literature etc. While the profile and the membership of the club have changed in recent years, from the numerous meetings and conversations we’ve all had with the Irish Community in Perth, there is still a strong desire to keep the Club and its tradition alive, and to maintain its role as a place for the Irish community to come together. Certainly, in this important year in Irish history – the 100 year anniversary of 1916 – the Club has a vital role to play in the calendar of events planned to commemorate the occasion.

But - we’re struggling to stay afloat. We presented the financial situation to the membership back in November 2015, and since then have received lots of offers of assistance and support – such as members volunteering to work in the club, painting the walls, fixing doors, redesigning the website etc., and it’s been fantastic. We have also managed to pay substantial amounts off the outstanding debt by restructuring the expenses of the club and reining in expenditure. But we still need help.
If you are a member or a supporter of the Irish Club, and you would like to see it continue in WA – now is the time to donate whatever you can.
This campaign is not for the benefit of any individual person or business, but purely for the benefit of the Irish Community as a whole.
