“You have Cancer.”

I knew it, but it sucks when it is confirmed that you do have cancer.  I had gone without medical insurance for a few years, because after I retired.  The payments were eating away at my small check.  I had just resigned up under the affordable health act and were going for my annual check-up.  Unfortunately, to make it affordable you have to not get sick.  Now I am facing breast cancer surgery and treatment to follow, in the coming up weeks.  That is how fast your life can change.

No one is exempt, from illness or trials in this life.  My name is Ivy, and I have cancer.  I retired from my job a few years ago, after twenty-five years of working and at that time I rarely missed a day.   Being a single mother, I like many struggling to make ends meet it was hard working and caring for a child.  However,  just before retiring I became the caregiver to my mother who is battling with many heart problems, diabetes and a long list of illness, and she too had cancer.  I also help with take care for another family member who is fully disabled.  Unfortunately, both my mother and brother have  limited assistance, so fill in helping them both as much as possible in their daily lives.  I also have to contribution to the household.

No insurance these days, will not pay for everything.  I was told by the one week before surgery that I would be responsible for half the cost, of my surgery and treatment, also for any extra test that would be required.

I remember that times when I have helped other, there was a friend who was trying to raise money for the cancer walk.  I never expected, that it would be me who was facing what some any have with this illness.  There are people who I have known that died from cancer, some waited too long in order get treatment.  It is hard to see people suffer, I would not want that for anyone, including myself.  I know that I will be needed to save my life.  A few of my co-workers even tried to work while going through cancer treatment, unfortunately they did not make it.

I am a firm believer in that you will get back what you give, I hope you will help in my fight.  I will be grateful for anything that you can give in order to help offset the medical and home expenses during this difficult time.

Please Share and pass it on to others whom you may know.    No one is exempt from cancer.
