The Chamberlain Family

Tuesday November 13th 2018 was the day that changed the lives of this family forever. Shanna and David Chamberlain were in the process of a separation but having three beautiful children kept the relationship respectful. They knew that changes in the children’s lives needed to be small and slow. His immediate family was in town. Everyone was in the house. David’s mother was packing to head home to Florida. The sitter was there ready to watch the youngest. Shanna sat crisscrossed on the floor looking up at David sitting on the couch. She had recently dissolved her company and David was trying to convince her brilliant mind to come work for his company. She was taking notes on her phone when things took a turn. David began to seizure. Those that knew him and her, know the size difference between the two of them. After she frantically called 911 her 5’5 frame pulled his 265 lbs, 6’2 body off the couch and began doing CPR. The dispatcher stood by her side on the phone giving her instructions. Shanna screamed for the sitter telling her to keep David’s mother out of this room! “ Do not let her in here” is all she could muster. 7 minutes she worked on David. She wanted to stop. She was exhausted, telling the man on the phone she didn’t know how much longer she could keep going. “They are right around the corner. I know you are tired and I know you are scared but you have to keep going”. This kept David alive. They took him took him to Ross medical center at OSU and was placed on a ECMO machine. There are only 18 hospitals in the country that have them. The CPR and ECMO machine kept him alive. Shanna was at the hospital with his mother. They spent the days quizzing him. Trying to spark his memory. He was making progress by following little commands. Shanna knew things were different and even though he was talking he didn’t remember her or the children. He was stuck living in a moment in the past. David was all brain. He could hold a conversation with anyone and understand things that most people would over look. He was an intellectual being. Even though his memory was gone, his personality and sarcasm held strong. One day he had broken out from the room as Shanna was walking up to visit. There was a few nurses following him and trying to get him back to the room. Shanna approached him explaining to him that he was going to be late for the meeting and all the big wigs were waiting on him. He let her walk him back to the room and get settled back into bed. The doctors were making arrangements for his release. His mother had returned home on a Wednesday and Friday night at ten things took a turn once again. At 10 pm his heart stopped and at the time they called her they had already been doing CPR on him for 10 minutes. When Shanna got to the hospital they had so many drugs keeping him alive there was no way his parents would make it from Florida in time to say goodbye. So Shanna FaceTimed with them while they said goodbye to their son. Shanna then took a moment with him rubbing his chest and telling him it was going to be ok. At 2:45 she said “ok its time”At 2:55 am David took his last breath He didn’t want a funeral or viewing. The family however would like to give a Celebration of life party. David was the soul provider, even through the separation. This tragedy has left her children without their father and has put them in a unbelievable financial struggle. I’m asking for help to pay for Last minute Christmas giftsCelebration partyMoving expenses And help start the New Year off with a positive outlook for this family. Please give what you can and thank you in advance
