Justice For Molly

My beloved mare, Molly (AQHA SMOKIN KINGS MOLLY) was shot while standing in her pasture on Wednesday, November 28th, 2018 between 6:00p and 6:15p. It was determined after a prompt vet examination that euthanasia was the most humane option, as Molly's vitals were rapidly deteriorating. Molly did not die peacefully. She was hit in the upper right quadrant of her abdomen. She was urinating a significant amount of blood. The necropsy found the bullet had obliterated her kidneys. Molly was a great horse, and very well trained. She was bred and raised in Ohio by Ronda Shafer. She was sent to University of Findley as a 2 and 3 yr old where she went through reining training. Molly was a King bred foundation quarter horse, sired by SHAWNEE SANDS (also owned by Ronda Shafer) out of CHINA'S DARK TEAR. Ronda spent 11 years with sweet Molly and unfortunately had to sell her due to life circumstances. She found her way to Kentucky where she continued to be trail ridden and shown in ranch pleasure classes. She came to live with me on January 2nd this year. Molly was my first horse I've ever owned. I boarded her at a nearby children's home with an equine therapy program, where the kids loved having such a beautiful black horse in the diversely patterned herd. Molly came to live with me and my rescue, Sancho, in July of this year. She settled in so nicely. I believe she loved the attention she received being an "at home" horse again. Every single time I opened the front door she would call out to me, likely asking if it was feeding time. She was spunky, sweet, content, and so beautiful to watch. I spent most of my time thinking about Molly and Sancho, thinking about ways to make their lives better, adventures I wanted to eventually go on with them, their health, their happiness, the pasture and barn I was planning on building for them, etc. Someone has ripped that away from us. This is an open investigation with the Fayette County Police Department. This GoFundMe is dedicated to the REWARD for information leading to an arrest of the individual who shot and killed my sweet Molly. My girl did not deserve to die this way, she was a beautiful, healthy, graceful, amazing animal that died way before her time. I want this individual found, whether this was an intentional slaying, or accidental, so that we may rest knowing we did everything we could in honor of her memory. Dozens of local friends and new friends from across the country have expressed interest in donating money to a reward fund for information leading to an arrest. This seemed like the best way to make it easier for folks to donate to the cause. My goal is to raise $1,500.00 as a reward that will be given to the person that gives a tip or information that leads to the arrest of the individual or individuals that committed this heinous crime. Any money raised for Justice for Molly in excess of $1,500 will be donated to our amazing local equine rescue and advocacy group, Heart of Phoenix (https://www.wvhorserescue.org).
