Cruelty Case: Georgia's Medical Plea

Higher Ground Animal Sanctuary is a 501c3 non profit rescue, who works directly with local animal control to receive animals that have been seized due to abuse or neglect. 

This horse has been through so much, and we have promised her safety, health, love, and sanctuary. Will you help us fulfill this promise?

Georgia was received recently via local animal control. She was seized by a repeat offender in an ongoing animal cruelty case. Immediately we had concerns about what this horse has been through. However, nothing could have prepared us for what happened shortly after her arrival.

Georgia has very light skin around her eyes, like many appaloosa's. One evening, we noticed unusual irritation in one of her eyes, and called our farm hand right away. within 24 hours, this irritated eye turned into a very large abscess that presented rapidly, literally between night feeding and the next morning. We were so fortunate that Dr. Lynch could come immediately to her aid.

Georgia is at McKinlay & Peters Equine Hospital where they will continue to debris her wounds for 2-4 more weeks. Dr Lynch is using medical maggots to clean the area.
Dr Lynch has not been able to determine the cause. We hope to learn more but at this point we are just so thankful he saved her.
