Los Angeles Homeless Outreach

Homelessness has increased dramatically throughout the city and county of Los Angeles. In the wake of this crisis, LAPD's Olympic Area spearheaded a new homeless outreach program designed to build relationships with the homeless and connect them to housing, treatment, and other essential services. This program is called Project HOPE (Homeless Outreach and Partnership Endeavor).

Project HOPE is led by Police Officer Joseph Cirrito, in partnership with Olympic's Deputy City Attorney Neighborhood Prosecutor Steve Houchin and outreach workers from service providers such as LAHSA (Los Angeles Homeless Services Authority), Department of Mental Health, and many others. Working together, Officer Cirrito and the team have contacted and provided meaningful outreach to hundreds of our homeless neighbors. The teams continue to be effective in helping homeless individuals enter shelters, mental health treatment, and permanent housing. Recently, the team was able to place a single mother and her six sons in a permanent four-bedroom apartment.  The family had been living out of a car for years.

 LAPD and its brave officers fight every day to keep us safe and secure, including the homeless community. To raise increased awareness of the homeless crisis and LAPD's important role in assisting the homeless, Officer Cirrito will be running the Los Angeles Marathon is his full Class A Uniform. He will be joined by Officer Kristina Tudor of LAPD, and Sergeant Patrick Donovan of Cook County Sheriff's Department in Chicago; all will be running in full tac-uniform.  Deputy City Attorney Houchin and other members of the HOPE team will run with Officers Cirrito and Tudor in support.

 All proceeds will be donated to LAHSA's Emergency Response Team to assist the homeless in partnership with LAPD.
