solar blacksmith shop chimney fund
ive always enjoyed blacksmithing since i was a boy. i was only able to practice metalcraft when weather was ideal. for the first time in 10 years i have the chance to perform my trade indoors without telling customers "weather permitting" i started blacksmithing because of my interests in using the english longbow, i got tired of buying cheap target arrows and i always thought "hand made" arrows that were purchased online were either inferior quality, or beyond reasonable prices. so i decided to fill a niche of good quality at reasonable rates. if its not good enough for me to use or be proud of, it will never be good enough to sell.
my father always told me "take care of your customers and they will take care of you." he came from the generation that didnt nickel and dime people. i took that to heart. so much so alot of the simple quick fixes for tools and gear i just dont have the heart to charge people for.
so im asking customers and fellow reenactors, metal workers, and fellow small family buisnessmen for a little help.
my goal was to make a shop completely off grid. the problem is im saving up to marry my fiance, we just finished a deal on the house. and we dont make alot of money and my hands are tied financially in building our lives together. ive been putting this project off almost two years and i decided its now or never.
at this time the solar array is strong enough to power one of the tools for several hours. when i expand it, it should be able to power the entire shop for one sunny day.
i need help funding the chimney for the forge and the wood stove. double wall insulated pipe is expensive and for safety reasons we chose not to DIY it. since forge chimneys are also larger diameters than standard it tends to be more expensive.
with a permanent forge and a way to heat the space ill be able to take orders year round and share my knowledge of metal craft with others.
