4th Annual Unity Walk

Donation protected
The 4th Annual Unity Walk will take place on June 8, 2019, at 11:00 am in Jersey City.   The walk starts at McAdoo Avenue and Martin Luther King Drive and finishes at Lincoln Park.  At the end of the walk, there will be live entertainment, guest speakers, resource information tables, activities and food for the entire community to enjoy!  The purpose of the Unity Walk is to unite the community in the fight against violence, injustice and inequality and the movement to improve the quality of life in our neighborhoods.  The theme of this year’s Unity Walk is “Peace Building.”

Every year the Unity Walk serves as a visual commitment by community members and partners to do the work necessary to improve our neighborhoods.  It serves as the kickoff of a series of quality of life improvement initiatives.  The 2019 Unity Walk is especially important because we have three years of work under our belt.  We are excited to share our progress with you.  As a direct result of the Unity Walk the following progress has been made:

- Participation has increased by 9% with a total of 930 attendees in 2018 versus 855 in 2017;
- More than 250 attendees signed up for free workshops, classes and informational sessions at the walk;
- The JCUNITY program was created, which allows organizations and individuals to work collectively on community empowerment and quality of life initiatives without joining a specific organization;
- JCUNITY also became a way to promote goodwill community initiatives on social media via the #JCUNITY hashtag;
- More than 280 residents attended workshops facilitated through the JCUNITY program;
- A long-term commitment to getting residents more vested in their community was birthed from the JCUNITY Block Association Workshops;

This year’s walk is going to be an amazing event and will continue to serve as a catalyst for change in our neighborhoods.  However, we need your help to make sure we are able to increase attendance through improved marketing, pay for walk expenses, including food, insurance, law enforcement, t-shirts and to increase post-walk community programs.

Thank you in avance for your courtesy and generosity.
