Hammond Street Church Hook Organ

Donation protected
Are you an "organ donor" yet? No, not the kind of organ donor you indicate on your driver's license! Hammond Street Church in Bangor, Maine has the opportunity to restore and install a 150 year old pipe organ - Hook Organ Opus 304 from 1861. We need your help to raise funds to make the installation possible later this fall. Our church has already raised a significant amount for the restoration but we need additional help to complete this project. Please be a part of history to help this incredible musical instrument come to Bangor. We hope to see you in the pews for our upcoming organ concerts!

Here is more information:
Hammond Street Congregational Church (HSCC) United Church of Christ welcomes the renovated E. & G. G. Hook Organ, Opus 304 (1861) to our existing casework from E. & G. G. Hook, Opus 159 (1854). Renovations by A. David Moore, Inc. of Pomfret, Vermont. The organ, dedicated in memory of the Libbey-McClure family, will be inaugurated in 2015.

E. and G. G. Hook were premier New England pipe organ builders in the 1800's and early 1900's. Hook organs are known worldwide for their exceptional quality. A tracker organ is a pipe organ with mechanical action (not electrical) connecting the keys to the sliders that move to cause the pipes to sound. Hook organs are all tracker organs.

The original HSCC organ, Hook Opus 159 built in 1854, was removed from the church when the Allen electronic organ was purchased in 1969. The "new" organ, Hook Opus 304, was built in 1861 and has been acquired from the New Hope Baptist Church in Boston, saving it from destruction.

HSCC is having this organ rebuilt to be placed in our original 1854 case. It will be very similar to the original HSCC organ. The Libbey-McClure Organ will have two manuals or keyboards, the Great and the Swell, as well as a full pedal board. The Stoplist for the renovated
organ is attached.

Donations to support this historical restoration project are welcome. Please contact Hammond Street Congregational Church with any questions.
