So I got a great new job, 25% more than I make now with good full-time hours and plenty of chances to earn overtime, to say nothing of benefits that can't be beat; government jobs are awesome.
This job is in Massachusetts, and I'm in Georgia.
Not a problem, theoretically. Unfortunately, in an amazing example of why I am trying to leave this part of Georgia, my current job has screwed me out of at least $1100 worth of money I expected to have saved for this move by now between a promised raise that never happened and incentive bonuses that failed to materialise.
And then there's a little problem of not as much time to plan, and save between getting told I have the job and my start date as I'd expected; told at least a month and a half, maybe two months, got less than three weeks.
Please. This is a chance to go from ever deepening struggle in a dying city whose primary industry is call centres that keep closing and laying people off (to say nothing of the utter lack of job security; I live in fear of going to work one day to discover that my job has been given to our Phillipines outsource … yes we have one already) to very real job security with savings and the money not to have to decide whether to pay rent or buy groceries. I'm desperate.
