To our friends and family that we love so much!! (And miss dearly!) as many of you know Reena and I have been traveling through Europe since the beginning of September it's been a magical experience but we are ready to make our time abroad more meaningful and impactful, to give our energy, skills, and love toward something that we both feel passionate about on top of being able to learn a lot and grow in our areas of interest. Through the work away site we came upon two wonderful opportunities that we can volunteer for. The first is a small community in central Portugal whose retreat center, garden and land has been almost completely damaged. Here's an email from the owners so you have a good idea of what we will be doing;
"We got very much afflicted by the fire of the 17th of June 2017. The beautiful surrounding is gone but God kept our main houses and parts of the garden. But the whole forest around are burned...The help we will need is especially in the garden: weeding!... but also cleaning the riverbed, neglected terraces, and the forest, cleaning jobs around the house, watering, trimming flowers,"
What we will be doing:
We work 5 hours, plus twice an 1/2 hour of community work (like dishes, cleaning the cafeteria or toilets, etc.)
DAILY SHEDULE:
7:10 - 8:00 Breakfast and getting ready to work
8:00 - 8:30 Community work
8:30 - 9:00 Health talk
9:00 - 12:30 Work
13:00 - 14:00 Lunch and getting ready for work
14:00 - 14:30 Community work
14:30 - 15:30 Work
15:30 - 18:30 Free
18:30 - 19:00 Bible talk (optional)
19:10 - 19:40 supper
19:40 - .... Dishes for those who eat
Lifestyle:
We do not promote any smoking nor drinking on our premises.We appreciate a decent clothing for the ladies (shorts to knee level, shoulders be covered, no body-shaped clothes: if you wear leggings then your buttocks should be covered)
Our diet is 100% plant based (vegans) and we are living in a remote place in a small international community. We are of a Christian faith and welcome people from all walks of life.
Environment:
We have the rainy season from October till April. This means that you need water-proofed shoes, a rain garment and warm clothing! Nights and early mornings will be much colder. The temperatures - in the midst of winter - will go down below zero!You would need to bring a very good - WARM - sleeping bag, bed sheet, working shoes, clothes, flash light and gloves...
*So, we ask that you donate whatever you can, even a dollar helps tremendously when added with another.
The money will go towards travel expenses (flights, busses, etc.) and all other essentials such as, warm equipment, sleeping bags, tents, etc... and whatever else we may need to get to the places ahead with the necessary tools and gear :-)
We are so excited and passionate about this up coming adventure and mission. And after this have plans to move forward with various work away opportunities.
