Is it just me or is it getting hot here? I’m just a lamb but the bighorn sheep grownups tell me that it didn’t used to be so warm. They tell me I am lucky to live in central Colorado. There are still places here where me and my friends can stay cool. Places where lots of plants and animals thrive. And the pathways we need to get there. I hope these places are still here when I grow up. For me and for my lambs too!

What the lamb doesn’t know is with more and more people coming to Colorado there is more and more pressure to develop our wild public lands. Wild Connections is here to help this lamb and his friends flourish in Central Colorado. For over 20 years Wild Connections has been working to identify, protect, and restore wildlands, native species, and biological diversity in the Arkansas and South Platte watersheds. We have a proven track record of guarding public lands in central Colorado.

We are now embarking on a crucial project to identify the wild places in central Colorado that can serve as refuges as the climate changes and the corridors animals need to get there. Climate scientists are saying that these changes are inevitable but adaptation techniques like climate refuges and corridors can help preserve animals like bighorn sheep, lynx, cutthroat trout, and pika along with the rare plants in our state.

Once we have identified these areas, we will update our 13-year-old Wild Connections Conservation Plan. This plan is our vision for protecting wild public lands in central Colorado. The public land managers in our region listen to us. With science backing up our recommendations, we will convince the National Forest Service to protect those places when they update the management plan for the Pike-San Isabel National Forests. This update is due to start soon. Now is the time to get our ducks (and lambs) in a row.

But we can’t do it without your help!

Who we are: Wild Connections is the only tax-deductible, non-profit conservation organization in central Colorado working exclusively toward our objectives. We are a small but mighty group with a hands-on volunteer Board of Directors: Jim, John, Alison, Deb, Alison, Misi, Claude, and Karl. And we have several hundred more volunteers who assist us with numerous projects.

Why donate to Wild Connections? Please donate to help us hire the scientists and professionals we need to make this a reality. Visit wildconnections.org for more information.

Please, please forward this appeal to all of your conservation-minded friends and help spread the word about Wild Connections!
