Ray Garton is a well known author of horror and suspense fiction. He weaves tales of werewolves, vampires and all manner of beasties that go "˜bump' in the night. You may recognize popular titles such as 'Live Girls', 'Night Life', 'Ravenous, 'Bestial', and 'The Loveliest Dead'. He is also a beloved husband, friend and lover of all things furry and feline.

He suffers from a condition known as laryngopharyngeal reflux, or LPR. Similar to GERD, LPR sends stomach acid into the throat where it irritates the larynx and causes hoarseness, soarness, and a condition called globus pharyngis, which creates the strong sensation of a large lump in the throat. In the process of diagnosing him, the doctor found a white spot on Ray's left vocal cord. It may simply be irritation from the stomach acid, but a biopsy is required to rule out cancer.

While an author's career is marked with some benefits, great health insurance is not one of them. His out of pocket expenses for this necessary biopsy will total $1500.00, and hard times in this industry and a previous illness requiring three operations that wiped out their savings have left him and his wife in a tough situation.

We ask that you help our friend take his first steps back toward good health so that he may continue to do what he loves most and does best; sharing stories with you.

Ray just sent this message that he asked me to add to the page:

"When a fundraiser was first suggested, I said no. I thought it would be too embarrassing to ask for money. But when it became clear that our many other options were nonexistent, I told Rhonda to go ahead. Then I began to worry that it would get no response. How embarrassing would THAT be? And then the response came and I've been overwhelmed all day. I am deeply and profoundly touched by your generosity and concern, and my gratitude is so great that I'm not sure how to express it. Thank you so much."

I know I said "one more update", clearly I lied.

At this moment we are only 100.00 away from our fundraiser goal.
I am astounded, I am overwhelmed, and I just want to thank everyone again.
You people rock!

Just wanted to add one more update for the evening.
We are now at 77.67% of our goal for this fundraiser.
Thank you all for your support and for insuring that our friend gets the medical treatment he needs with a little less financial stress.
He is extremely touched by the support, and the words of encouragement.

Although strapped for $ myself at this time, I urge others to consider why Mr. Garton is a special hero: he has consistently been transparent about his involvement with the Haunting in CT story: Christopher Hitchens maintained it was ethically deplorable to teach kids about a place called Hell that would punish them for their human imperfections: the Warrens & Carmen Reed (Snedeker) are equally culpable for fabricating the events of CT & Amityville, in a way that glorifies their "faith". History will properly frame Carmen as accused of lottery scam & the Warrens as exploiters of mentally ill dysfunctional families: the future of reasonable humans owes a debt to Ray Garton for his uncompromised integrity. Horror fiction is too valuable and important artform to allow to be chronically tainted by the untruth:"based on a true story"- I sincerely thank you & wish you well, Mr. Garton
