Teaching Circus Skills in Nica w/ PWB!

Donation protected
I am honored to have been accepted into Performers Without Borders' 2014 Nicaragua Project! Performers Without Borders teaches performing arts to vulnerable children in countries of high child poverty. Check them out! http://performerswithoutborders.org.uk/

I am excited to share my passion with kids who's lives will hopefully be positively impacted by circus, like mine has been! In order to be apart of the project, I am required to raise money to pay for my flight and to cover all my food, accommodation and transport costs while in the country. $1300 is the amount I am required by PWB to have for my accommodation and food cost for 3 months. I am planning to fundraise for the flight through a raffle at the show I am producing in San Diego on Oct 26th.

A great video that explains what the 2013 PWB Nicaragua team did can be found here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6Sofl01JL98

My life has been completely changed by dance and the circus arts! My main drive and passion in life is to give people the opportunity to change their lives through something that has had such a profound impact on me and so many people around me. I have wanted to give back to the community that has given me so much by volunteering to teach abroad for some time now. I am just finally feeling stable enough in my life to do just that. Coming from a place of stability is important to me when deciding to do such an extensive and intense project.

I had the opportunity to visit Bags & the PWB team in Nicaragua this year in the middle of their project there. I was instantly in love with the kids and impressed by how much they learned. They really seemed to be grateful to the team and I could see the impact first-hand. I wrote about my experience in Nicaragua here: http://danceuniversallanguage.blogspot.com/2013/03/dreaming-circles-in-nicaragua.html

When I was 12, I was very rebellious and completely at war with my parents. My mom started going to belly dance class and had to take me with her because if she left me at home alone I would surely get into trouble. So I started going to belly dance class, ended up loving it and never stopped going back! Starting that hobby at such a young age completely affected my development as a person and as a woman. My rebellious phase ended, I became close with my mom and my whole family again. I had something to be passionate about that was challenging, fun and empowering. I performed with my mom in her troupe from the age of 12 onward and was blessed to be surrounded by empowered, dancing women on a regular basis.

10 years after starting to belly dance, hooping came into my life and gave me a new perspective on what my day to day can look like. Finding hoop dance gave me something interesting and meaningful to do with my career, it gave me a purpose. It wouldn't have affected me the same if I hadn't already been belly dancing for a decade beforehand.

I hope to share this same passion of dance and circus (hooping) with the kids in Nicaragua who will be around the same age I was when belly dancing came into my life and changed it. Please help me do this by donating anything you can. If you can't donate, please share the link! Thank you!
