Save a Powerhouse of the Past

Donation protected
The local Arizona tractor club in setting out to restore a 100 year old 1915 Case Steam Traction Engine or tractor, this tractor was built after the start of the first World War.  I have not been able to track down much of its history. However, by the wear of the drive gears it was used for farming.  Some of these steam tractors were used to provide stationary power by the belt to drive a sawmill, for example.  I can imagine how this unit would have provided the much needed food for the boys in Europe after the US was engaged as well as food for those who were supporting from home.  With the advent of WWI there was a special need to do farm work without the amount manual labor of the earlier times.  Most of those who would have helped were fighting for our freedom.  This Steam Traction Engine or tractor as well as many other Steam Traction engines filled this need.   As stated in the Antique Farming article at the Steam Engine Invented home page copyright 2006:

The importance of the steam engine invention can hardly be underestimated--it gave us the modern world. A key feature of it was that it brought the engine out of the remote coal fields into factories where many mechanics, engineers, and even tinkerers were exposed to its virtues and limitations. It was a platform for generations of inventive men to improve. It was clear to many that higher pressures produced in improved boilers would produce engines having even higher efficiency, and would lead to the revolution first in transportation that was soon embodied in the locomotive and steamboat and later to the farm field and the Traction Steam Engine.

We need your help to save this Powerhouse of the Past and not loose this priceless piece of history.  Our campaign goal is:

Complete restoration of the Case Steam Traction Engine or tractor.  We are hoping to raise the money by April 1 2016, The work will take just about a year to complete and we need to secure a place with the mechanic by paying the deposit.

The boiler needs to be replaced and all the mechanical parts need to be checked, rebuild or replaced as necessary.  Some of the best men to do this work are in the Midwest.  We have a quote to replace the boiler, and refurbish or restore all of the steam valves, piping and system components.  We need to then transport this 20,000 pound tractor to Ohio for the work.

The budget stacks up as follows:

Quote for new boiler                                                  $32,000.00

Installation of the boiler                                              $5,000.00

Estimated to refurbish or restore other parts
                                                                                                $12,600.00
Transportation to and from Ohio                        $10,400.00

                                        Total Campaign                 $60,000.00

This budget doesn’t include paint of the Steam Traction Engine or restoration of steering, drive gears or other chassis parts. We are counting on local volunteers to help with these items.

This budget also doesn’t include the training of someone to be the local steam engineer.  The Steam engineer is certified by the government to operate the Steam Traction Engine.

Why are we doing this?

Our organization is dedicated to the preservation and display of Antique and Vintage farm Equipment.  We hope through the display of the equipment we can educate future generations about the contribution of those who came before us.

We need your help!

Your generous gift can help restore this Case Powerhouse of the Past to its former grandeur.  We are confident that, with your help, we will have the restored Case Steam Engine steamed up for display at our 2017 shows.  Your generosity will go a long way to help preserve the history of a piece of equipment that has literally shaped our country.

If you would like to see the Steam Traction Engine, come to our February Gas Engine and Tractor Show at Saguaro Ranch Park February 13th and 14th   2016.   Or come to the March show at the Apache Junction Rodeo Ground on March 11th and 12th 2016.

Introducing the 150 Club

The logic behind the 150 club is simple; we need to raise $60 thousand dollars. If 400 people donate $150, we would instantly reach our goal.  No problem, right?

While we realize that not everyone can make such a generous donation, we do hope that you would consider $150, be it in one lump sum or a $50 initial payment and four $25 monthly installments, to be a reasonable contribution.

If you are united with us by a common interest in Antique and Vintage farm Equipment and nurse a concern for the preservation of these machines and their history.  Please help us fulfill our mission of preserving this amazing machine.

150 Club members and above will be recognized when we display the Case Steam Traction Engine. Join today by donating.

If the 150 Club is out of your reach any donation would be helpful. Please don’t hesitate to participate.
