Parkland College Kick For the Cure
Spende geschützt
A few years ago I started this event for two main reasons. It was at the same time that Mickey Cler,
our beloved secretary and all around great person, was going through
cancer treatment and I wanted to find a way to pay her back for all she
has done for our soccer program. As you may know, half of all men and
one-third of all women in the US will develop cancer during their
lifetimes. Cancer costs billions of dollars. It also costs us the people
we love. Reducing barriers to cancer care is critical in the fight to
eliminate suffering and death due to cancer. For many in our program,
cancer has had an indescribable impact and our players wanted to do
something about it. We are excited about the chance to fight against
this terribly destructive force in America and we thank you for your
support in helping the American Cancer Society fulfill their mission of
being the "Official Sponsor of Birthdays."
The other reason was to build a high end men's college soccer tournament in the Midwest. We are into year three and while we are certainly growing in the second part,I believe that we can still do more more for the wonderful cause of Coaches vs. Cancer and the American Cancer Society.
We have 10 college teams representing Illinois, Ohio, Iowa, Missouri and Wyoming this year and the competitive level continues to be very high. The finances, however, are always cost prohibitive with referee fees, field usage and staffing. While we are gaining corporate sponsorships for many of those items, our costs continue to grow and I am seeking any financial help that you are comfortable in giving. This is NOT a fundraiser for Parkland Soccer. Once our costs are covered, we are still looking to make the largest financial donation we can for Coaches vs. Cancer. If you would like to donate directly to us, you can still send a check to "Parkland College Men's Soccer" to 2400 West Bradley Avenue, Champaign IL 61821 at any time.
We thank you in advance for your generosity and together we can Kick For the Cure!
