Animal Sanctuary Dream

Donation protected
We’ve all heard the  horror statistics about the rate at which perfectly healthy animals are being euthanized at shelters.

But what about the even slimmer chances for the antisocial, the elderly, and the disabled shelter animals?

My dream is an open land animal sanctuary specializing in permanently housing cats. (Although dogs, small animals, and farm animals would not be excluded). The primary focus would be on housing pets that are the least likely to get adopted in shelters.

Every individual animal would be worked with to be rehabilitated.  Cats could then live out the rest of their lives in a natural and healthy outdoor/indoor environment. The environment would strive to allow them to "be their natural catly selves" in as many ways as possible.

My sanctuary setup would be inspired by the famous Cat House on The Kings in California. (http://www.cathouseonthekings.com/) Please check them out! (If for any reason I am no longer able to continue working towards my goal, all money received will be donated to the Cat House on The Kings.)

I envision creative fundraising events to be a large part of how  the sanctuary stays afloat. Seasonal events, tours, and performance events on the future property are all a part of my vision. But, none of it can begin without a location.

This page is to help me get that space, and to get started. I need all the help I can get. Please help me give the forgotten of the forgotten animals their second chance. Even the smallest donation is greatly appreciated.

More about me:

I am a 22 year old waitress living in an East Coast beach town, and I’m working hard to build a savings to start my dream. Buying a small plot of land is my first goal. But of course, there is much more involved. There’s endless medical care expenses, fencing and preparation, legal documentation and non profit status applications, food, structures, environmental purchases and necessary equipment, just to start the list out. At some point, I also would like to complete an Associate's degree in Veterinary Technology, so that I can be better equipped to help with with the medical needs of the sanctuary.

My talents lie in socializing feral kittens, medicating elderly cats and animals with debilitating illnesses, repairing behavioral issues, and taming the seemingly untamable. Rehabilitating pets that the rest of society has given up on.

From the age of 8, I have been adopting and caring for cats, dogs, reptiles,  rodents, birds, and fish. (Much to my parent's dismay.) (They tolerated me.)

I have fostered newborn and often antisocial kittens, and have successfully rehomed all of them.

I don't give up on any creature, no matter what. I have medically rehabilitated hamsters with broken legs, rescued lost cats in 2 hour solo searches in the dead of winter,  and 3 day long searches in the woods. At 17, I was willing to spend the 2,000 dollars I had managed to save up throughout high school at a part time job on surgery for a foster kitten with an unfortunate birth defect. Unfortunately, he passed.

Never giving up, and never being phased by my naysayers, I have always kept the animal's welfare and quality of life at priority number one.
