May the Lord give you His peace! My name is Adam Neff. I have felt a call to religious life for many years now, and as I grow closer to Christ, His will has become more clear. My greatest desire is to live the gospel and make it known. My heart responds to the gospel in the same way St. Francis' did. Like Francis, I hear the gospel and see the story of the rich young man whom Jesus told to sell everything; I see Jesus telling His disciples to take nothing on the journey; I see Jesus saying that his followers must also carry His cross. I want to be an example of what it means to give everything to follow Jesus. He loves me and I want to give myself totally and exclusively back to Him and live in away that would allow me to be the most generous with my love.
I feel a call not only to serve the poor but to be poor. This is because I want my words to be backed up by a life that truly proclaims a loving God Who cares for us and who we can trust. Jesus said, "Blessed are the poor, for theirs is the Kingdom of God." I desire His Kingdom before all else.
Like St. Francis, I also feel called to do penance. Religious life, and especially the Franciscan chrism, is one of penance; but not penance for its own sake. Jesus' first sermon was "Do penance for the Kingdom of God is at hand." By lovingly praying and doing penance, I can make reparation my my own sins, control my passions, learn to deny myself so that I may love God and others, participate in obtaining the grace for other souls, and correcting my own faults in order to grow in holiness.
Now, having the acceptance to be an aspirant with the Franciscan Brothers Minor in Fort Wayne, Indiana, I am being asked to reliquish all my student debt before I am able to enter. All the funds that I am able to raise here will go straight to pay back all the loans that I have acquired in my three years of college. I would really appreciate any and all support you are able to offer, whether it be monetary or through prayers. Thank you for sharing in my journey, know that my prayers will always be with you!
