In late June, my 33 year old sister, Aimee Taylor, received the devastating news that she has colon cancer which has spread to her liver. She has now had part of her colon removed and faces months of chemotherapy prior to liver surgery in the hope that they will be able to remove all of the cancer.

Aimee has a 5 month old baby and her wife has stepped down from employment to take maternity leave to care for baby Alexa and Aimee. My sister will eventually go on long term disability benefits but there will be a long period where she will have no income and her family will be strained financially.

Our goal is to raise $50,000 for Aimee to help give her the financial peace of mind necessary to help her fight her battle against cancer. Please give if you can. All donations will be humbly and very gratefully accepted.

Thank you.

A year ago, when Aimée first went into hospital, the doctors were not optimistic about the outcome and were suggesting palliative care. Since then Aimée has had major operations to remove a part of her colon, much of her liver and also to “fry” a stubborn tumour that couldn’t be excised. She has also undergone two courses of chemotherapy coupled with a non-standard complementary procedure that heated her liver as the chemo drugs were working. It’s been a tough, tiring and emotional year for her but she has been buoyed (and fatigued) by the delightful Alexa, who started walking early and grows apace.

In late May, Aimée had a scan of her liver, and when the results recently came in we were all ecstatic to hear that they showed that there were no signs of cancer. While it’s too early to say that everything has returned to normal, we have reached a good breathing space, are highly optimistic about the future, and she and Evani can start to plan ahead again.

We - Evani, her brothers, and all the family - have been overcome by the enormous support from both friends and strangers that Aimée was given through this battle. We all offer our most heartfelt thanks, for without your positive thoughts and your generous financial gifts Aimee’s challenges, and ours too, would have much harder to bear.

Thank you all so much.

PS: We will maintain this page on GoFundMe for another month so that all who have contributed have a chance to receive this news."

Following three months of chemotherapy into the...Following three months of chemotherapy into the winter, together with additional heat treatment of her liver (a protocol practised in Germany, but outside the conventional medical system in BC), Aimee's tumours had shrunk sufficiently to consider surgery. In early December about half of her liver was removed which eliminated most, but not all of the tumours. Subsequently she had an ablation procedure designed to kill the remaining culprit, which appears to have been successful. She is now undergoing a further course of chemotherapy with a couple more treatments left.

It has been a very tough period for her "“ considerable pain and discomfort, together with the trials of chemo "“ but she is in amazingly good spirits and feeling very positive about the future. Baby Alexa had her first birthday the day the news came that there were no signs of cancer in her liver, so that was the best present ever!

Once again, we the family, have insufficient words to thank all those who have supported Aimee by whatever means through this trial. We are grateful beyond measure and feel humbled by the love and support you have given to Aimee and all her kin.

Thank you again to all of you who have donated. Your generosity has, and continues to help Aimee, Evani and Alexa more than you know. Aimee's surgery is this Thursday... please send all of your positive vibes.

The following is an update from Aimee today on her Facebook page that we wanted to share.

"I'm at the VGH lab getting blood work to match me with a donor in the event that I need a transfusion during surgery, among other things. I've tried to stay healthily distracted leading up to Thursday. Had a lovely evening with my family last night to celebrate my oldest niece's TENTH birthday (where Alexa also got to show off her walking) and have just tried to take it easy the last little while. I can't say I'm not terrified going into this but I am truly drawing strength from this group and plan to take all of you into the operating room with me. For my surgery in June, as I was being put under, I pictured all of your hands underneath me, holding me up. I plan to do the same on Thursday, as it filled me with a great sense of peace. Thank you for your hands, your love and support. xoxo"
