Some kids want to be a doctor or a firefighter when they grow up. I've always wanted to be an Olympian. Growing up in an urban area there are few opportunities to explore the many events in the world of Track and Field, so it took some time before I found my true calling. It wasn't until my junior year at Stevens Institute of Technology, a small division III engineering school in Hoboken, NJ, that I discovered my true passion for hammer throw. From then on I knew that it would be the platform for my lifelong dream.
While at Stevens I became the first Indoor Track and Field NCAA Division III All-American in program history, and claimed 4 school records. Two of those records still stand. Since graduating in 2013, I have improved my performance and qualified for the 2015 USATF National Championships in Eugene, OR under the guidance of my coach, Paddy McGrath, and as a member of the Thrower Nation Track Club based out of NJ. My experience at Nationals was incredible, and I hope to make a repeat appearance at Hayward Field this summer at Olympic Trials.
Every dollar helps in a way you can't imagine and allows me to train and compete with elite level hammer throwers and coaches. The money I raise will help cover travel costs to Trials in July and hopefully allow me to compete at some of the top elite meets around the country leading up to Olympic Trials in Eugene, OR. Any funds over the goal will help pay for things like throwing shoes, hammer wires and handles, and training equipment.
Estimated Costs:
Airfare ~$800 (depending on location)
Hotel/AirBnB ~$80-$100 per day
Food ~$25-$30 per day ( I need to make sure I Eat to Perform ;) )
Rental Car ~$20-$100 per day (depending on availability)
Meet Entry Fees ~$20-$50 per competition
