Dundrum Housing Action

Dundrum Housing Action is campaigning for housing justice across the Rathdown constituency including the communities of Dundrum, Churchtown, Nutgrove, Ballinteer, Sandyford, Stepaside, Leopardstown and Stillorgan. We oppose the hand over of public land to private developers. Publicly controlled land at the Central Mental Hospital in Dundrum, the Central Bank in Sandyford, Leopardstown Racescourse, the Sandyford Business District and elsewhere should be used for a new system of Universal Public Housing and community facilities. Universal Public Housing would provide low and middle income families with secure, long-term affordable homes in their own communities.
Public lands must never again be used to generate super-profits for developers, speculators, landlords and the other property vultures that feast on our need for a home. We are also calling for strict controls in the private rental sector where rack-renting is driving an entire generation into poverty. The emergence of Real Estate Investment Trusts and other corporate landlords has helped drive rents to unaffordable levels across our communities. Rents must be brought down and those living in the private rental sector must be given real security of tenure. We stand together with our fellow citizens in opposition to overcrowding, economic evictions, sub-standard housing, rack-renting, homelesssness and the myriad of other serious problems that plague the 'free market' approach to housing.

We are hoping for donations so we can take our campaign further. Up until now all expenses for leaflets, posters, public information meeting rooms have been funded from our personal incomes.
