Roxy's Cataract Surgery

Donation protected
My name is Karen and my Dogs name is Roxy. She is a Jack Russel. I adopted Roxy From North Shore Animal League shelter when she was a little over 1 years old. She was in a home where she was abused and then adopted and brought back to the shelter due to her temperment. I knew I could handle her and give her the right love and patience that she deserved.  She is now 8 1/2 years old. Up until she developed cataracts, she was so active and playful. She brings such joy and warmth to my family. Roxy got sick and had to be hospitilized for a week at the ASPCA hospital. She was diagnosed with diabetes and pancreatitis. They didnt know if she was going to make it.  She had bile coming out of her eyes and nose. She was very weak and also had a severe urine infection. All of this came on suddenly without any prior symptoms. Roxy got all the help and slowly recovered from the hospital. Its now  8 months since shes been out of the hospital and has since developed cataracts. She is very depressed. She hasnt adjusted very well and is having a hard time dealing with it. She is not the same dog. She is very depressed and tries to play but gives up due to the fact she cant see. She tries to greet us as we come home, but she runs into the walls and gets hurt. We have kept everything in the house the same, but she still seems to be off with her sense of direction. I have taken her to the Optomologist in Manhattan and the quote was $5,500 and that is just a quote. That is without the medication and the tests prior to the operation which is $600. I dont know what the costs of the medications are yet. I then found an Optomoligist in Brooklyn, that was cheaper than Manhattan. Which I still cannot afford either. When you rescue an animal what comes to mind is that you save that animal but in fact, Roxy has really saved me because, I am disabled and cannot work. She has saved me in more ways than imaginable. When she was hospitilized with the diabetes, her cost was almost $6,000. Family members took credit out for me to help and I am still struggling to pay what I can back. I feel that I have to try my best to help her live her life with the best quality. My concern is that she will end up breaking her leg or hurting herself worse due to being blind. She has fallen a few times and she hurt her leg a few times. If she does break one of her legs or gets really hurt, she will end up having to go for surgery anyway and maybe costing more, yet still being blind. The Optomoligist said that I would need to get this surgery done as soon as possible because if I wait too long, it can permenantly damage her eyesight and be irreversable. I would really like to do what I can for Roxy because I feel like she is my child. She is part of the family. Even with this operation, I can never repay her for all that she has done for me. Please help and donate whatever you can. Every dollar counts. Roxy and I will be forever grateful. Thank you all in advance and God bless.

Love Roxy <3
