The Placke Family Fundraiser

Donation protected

On July 21, 2017 at 10:40AM, Jeff Placke passed peacefully at INOVA Fairfax Hospital.

He entered the hospital June 21, 2017 to complete his chemotherapy for his resurfacing Acute Myeloid Leukemia. However due to the complications of the chemotherapy and its effects of the human body; it resulted with all of his cells being wiped out which weakened his already compromised immune system. He succumbed to a fungal infection of the lungs that later infected his blood and vital organs such as his liver and kidneys.

My Dad was blessed to live without cancer for a year and spend his remaining time with us. He was greatly loved and admired in his workplace, among his friends and lastly his family.

Donations will help us all in this time of need.

Thank you all for showing your support and love for my dad.

He will be severely missed.

I wish you eternal peace Dad and I hope you are watching and guiding over us.

[OLDER]Early November my father, Jeff, fell down a number of stairs; he was then transported to Sentara Hospital where he was treated for his trauma. These injuries resulted in a broken coccyx bone, swelling in all his extremities, and internal bleeding.

Initially my family thought my father would be hospitalized just for his fall, but after a number of blood tests, there was an abnormality present in his blood that caused concern. The doctors had suspicions of a disease but had to wait on a number of test results.

On November 17th, I received a phone call from my dad’s physician indicating that my dad has been diagnosed with Acute Myeloid Leukemia. Immediately, I was dismissed from class and headed to Northern Virginia. My father was later moved to DC, where he was admitted to a hospital where he could be treated for his AML.

It has been about 2 weeks since my father has been hospitalized. He is currently battling a number of ailments such as leukemia and a blood infection (staph). He also has diabetes and rheumatoid arthritis. Because of all the complications of managing the cancer, infection, and stabilization of his bodily functions, it has been very hard on his body.

My father is the primary breadwinner for my family as well and due to his hospitalization, it has caused some financial struggles for my family. We take the metro to and from to see my father whenever possible. And time can only tell how much my father’s medical bills will be once everything settles down. I travel 3 hours (to and from) to see my family whenever I’m off from work; as you may have guessed this takes time and money.

We are asking help from anyone. We don’t know what the outcome may be, but we all want to be able to do what we can while we still have this chance. Any help is appreciated.
