Hello from Westosha Central High School in Salem, WI! Our school offers diverse learning opportunities, from woodshop to creative writing to adventure education, but new this year is Leading into the Future. Our class has participated in dozens of activities since the beginning. We have had multiple speakers from within our school to David Beth! There are many chances to learn and grow in this one semester class, and we wish to now extend this to our community.
Our community service project is going to be the Westosha Gardens. Westosha Central High School and the grade schools that feed into ours will all have the opportunity to raise fruits and vegetables for their own. This will be done by donations from anyone! We will put these donations to good use by building our own raised beds, creating an organic soil mixture and, hopefully, begin planting in the 2016 summer growing season. To keep this program going, we will educate the students at these schools about the organic growing process, healthy eating, and environmental safety/health. Each elementary school will receive 4-6 beds with supplies to help the communities surrounding them.
Even though we live in the Midwest, many children do not know how to plant and grow organic food in a small family garden. We hope this will help these kids become well balanced and active members of the community. Each garden will cost roughly $1,000, so your donations will help fund our school to begin the program.
We are a small class of 25, and we cannot do this alone. We need your help! Any and all donations are appreciated, and each dollar will impact the life of a child in the Westosha area.
