Christopher Moy was born in Armidale, the second child of Peter and Pat Moy. He was educated at St Mary’s and O’Connor Schools along with his siblings Laura, Emily and Andrew, and worked in Armidale since leaving School.

He is married to Vicki, daughter of Ned and Sandra Bourke and they have three children, Toby 8, Indianna 6, and Jack 4 years old.

Chris owned and operated his own building and construction business CP and VT Moy Constructions prior to his accident.

Chris, Vicki and the children were enjoying a short camping holiday at Copeton Dam with friends, whilst enjoying the water sports, Chris had an accident falling off a wakeboard. A brain haemorrhage was confirmed at Armidale Rural Referral Hospital and he was air lifted to John Hunter Hospital in Newcastle.

The following days and the entire month of February was a very difficult time for everyone who knew Chris and the families. Chris was in a critical condition and required Intensive Care for most of his hospital stay at John Hunter Hospital. During this time Chris underwent two major brain operations and unfortunately suffered a stroke, which resulted in a brain injury.

Chris requires rehabilitation and will continue to do so for a lengthy period of time. He has been discharged from the Brain Injury Unit at Tamworth Hospital but requires their assistance with Occupation Therapy, Psychology, Physiotherapy and Supports Visits in Armidale on a regular basis. Melissa Gill, the Stroke Coordinator at Armidale, is also involved in supporting Chris, Vicki and the family.

Chris will not be able to work or resume his own business for an indefinite period of time. While Chris may appear to be physically well, the effects of the brain injury are not always visible. People with a brain injury often suffer from cognitive dysfunction and are not always able to manage many of life’s more challenging aspects or their psychosocial functioning during the rehabilitation period. Chris has good days and some not so good days.

Friends and family have formed a committee and are organising a Benefit Day to be held on 14th May 2016 at the Armidale Bowling Club to help support Chris and the family. The event will commence at 2pm with registration for a Bowls game at 3pm, cost $10 per player. You can organize a team or if you would like to just enjoy a game of bowls, please turn up and register.

A barbeque will operate during the afternoon and early evening, with activities for children available, including a jumping castle. This will be followed by raffles and a giant auction of items donated by friends and local businesses. The evening will continue with live entertainment.

If bowls is not for you then please bring the family for a BBQ or buy a raffle ticket or two, or a grab a bargain in the auction, there have been many products and services generously donated by local businesses.

It would be wonderful to see as many people as possible on the day to support Chris and his family.

Thank you, donations towards the auction can be left with Pat and Peter, contact details below.
