Everyone is well aware of the drugs, crime and murders in our urban areas. Many of those crimes are committed by young adults, some as young as 10 years old on up, plaguing our local communities with pain and despair.
For over 25 years, Dr. John L. Curry, Pastor/Founder of the Ish/Isha Project Acedemy, and his wife, Dr. Shelia Curry, co-pastor, have operated a program in Belleville, Illinois and surrounding communities in St. Clair County aimed at troubled youth and young adults to help them to grow into the men and women God wants them to be.
Of those attending the Ish/Isha Project Academy many referred by the courts, or, have severe problems at school, home or in the community. Since 1991, the programs operated by the Curry's have given at risk youth a chance to succeed in life. And now, they want to expand the reach and effectiveness of the Ish/Isha Project Academy.
The Ish/Isha Project Academy gives at risk youth a chance to succeed in life, teaching them self-control, self-esteem, anger management, respect for law, respect for men and women, character development, conflict resolution while showing them how to live a productive life.
At this time our goal is to raise $5,000.00 of the total $25,000 cost for renovation of the building pictured here, and funding a computer education operation along with covering the cost of supplies and utility expenses.
According to the Pew Charitable Trusts 70% of African American males and females are born to single mothers; 50% to 75% of high school dropouts are African American males; 28% of African American males will go to jail or prison before the age of 25.
Your support will help enable us to expand our efforts to help young men and women to become productive citizens and ambassadors for Christ. We pray that you can aid us in this endeavor as we build those of tomorrow today, serving people changing lives.
