Kelly Burnett Kicks CarcinoidCancer

I am Haley Girton and starting a GoFundMe for my best friend Kelly Burnett, who was recently diagnosed with Carcinoid Cancer and Carcinoid Syndrome.  This is rare, considering Kelly doesn't fit the usual profile for this condition.  Luckily,  a tumor was incidentally found when removing her appendix after what was thought to be standard appendicitis.  She will turn 30 next week and her birthday will more than likely be spent undergoing additional diagnostic procedures or surgery to remove the identified tumor itself.  Her excellent medical team is taking things step-by-step to provide the best course of treatment, but we do know in the meantime before her operation she will have to administer 3 shots a day to control the symptoms that come along with Carcinoid Syndrome/Cancer that have made Kelly feel really sick.  

Kelly is an exceptional human being who never asks for help or complains and most people have no idea what kind of year her and her husband Mike have had.  Mike and Kelly had a beautiful baby boy Aiden, which the cost of having a baby is an undertaking in itself.  Four days after giving birth she had to have her gall bladder removed.  It seemed like things were on the mend when numerous trips to the ER and specialist revealed baby Aiden had intussusception, a condition which part of the intestine telescopes into itself.  Then it was back to hospital a few short days late, this time with Mike who had kidney stones.  In August, Kelly went to the ER for what seemed to be appendicitis and underwent surgery to remove her appendix.  This revealed the first carcinoid tumor which lead the doctor’s to order the additional diagnostics to determine if the cancer was anywhere else. Bringing us to where we are now with aforementioned Carcinoid Cancer and Carcinoid Syndrome diagnosis. 

 I think anyone who reads this story can agree that this wonderful family has not been able to catch a break! Kelly has been unable to work throughout this ordeal and Mike has literally been working his tail off to support everything that is going on.  It has truly been exceptional to witness such strength from these two amazing people who are going through so much.  I know both of them well enough to recognize that neither would ever ask for assistance from ANYONE, but there is certainly a need here!  Medical expenses have been piling without relief, and the last thing these newlywed parents need is to have to figure out how they are going to stay afloat financially.  Their energy needs to be spent getting Aiden’s mommy healthy again.
