AMP Community Arts Program is a 501c3 not for profit youth arts organization. We have been working to promote our mission since 2005 through: Presenting sponsored or non-sponsored exhibitions of new and established artists conducting community events, often through partnerships, to generate community participation in the arts conducting seminars, workshops and classes for students ages 12-18 to enhance knowledge and encourage creative experimentation featuring artists in the performing arts, visual arts, and literary arts from around the city.
Using professional artists and musicians, our approach is to teach our students to express their emotions through creative means. Instead of tagging public property, we teach them to make their mark on canvas. Instead of acting out in school, we encourage them to write their feelings and act them out in the recording studio through song, rap and spoken word.
This helps them not only to vent difficult emotions, but also to build self-esteem, trust and partnerships. Sometimes all a kid needs is one person to give him a chance or believe in him, and to tell him he can accomplish anything. Once he has that, he can build on it. We believe that art is the simple act of telling one’s personal truth, and that each of us has something beautiful and unique to be expressed.
