Hello! I am Dasha. I am currently a long-term volunteer for Centaur, the first and only animal-assisted therapy center in Armenia.
In this center we combine: horse-assisted therapy for disabled children with the help of our six horses; stray dog shelter with 42 dogs; two cats, a bunny and a turtle. All our animals are rescued and are involved in animal therapy. They help around 40 children a week.
Centaur is a unique and very important place in Armenia for both animals and the disabled children. We are located in the village, with direct access to fields and mountains and no geo-contaminating facilities nearby. Animals live here in their natural environment. We do not train them, we build a relationship with them. They are not used, they are part of the family.
Keeping all these animals is not an easy job. We still have a lot of issues that need to be solved and I am running this campaign to solve two very important ones.
We are raising funds for:
1. Fencing around the grazing place: At the moment we cannot set our horses free since we have no closed area. If we had a fence we could let them out to graze and play. This way horses can communicate with each other as they do in a herd; they become calmer and more friendly and willing to work. It is also safer and more comfortable to conduct hippotherapy sessions in a fenced place.
Here is the place we want to fence in:
2. Building playground area for the dog-assisted therapy where a child and a dog can communicate freely. We aim to have a small green fenced place with many different facilities and sensor integration path around with trees, bushes and flowers.
