Passport Oregon Van Madness!

Oregon is a place of breathtaking beauty that allows for people to explore, learn, and experience adventure. However, not every Oregonian has the resources needed to get outdoors.

Passport Oregon has a simple goal: restore our connection with the outdoors by reaffirming our right to wilderness. Morespecifically, we seek to provide young Oregonians from underserved urban and rural communities with opportunities to explore Oregon’s
environment.

This new nonprofit aspires to transport over 500 youth to Oregon’s many natural wonders on an annual basis at no cost to the children or their families. We believe that financial status and access to transportation should never inhibit one’s ability to engage nature. Surely, the vistas of the Gorge, peaks of the Cascades, vibrancy of the Painted Hills, ruggedness of the Wallowas, windblown landscapes of the Coast, terrain at Smith Rock, and deep blue of Crater Lake deserve to be encountered and explored by all.

Too many young Oregonians in particular have yet to see the very sights that define our state’s reputation as a destination for those yearning for an escape from sidewalks, skyscrapers, and sprawl. Too many are confined to the indoors and too few have lost themselves in the outdoors only to discover themselves through immersion in nature.

That’s where Passport Oregon  comes in.

Our organization, with your help, can provide students with those priceless experiences that play such a large role in shaping our state’s identity. At a time of environmental vulnerability, these wonders are more significant than ever. Transporting students from their towns and cities to Oregon’s great outdoors will embed within them the spirit of preservation and reverence for nature that has long distinguished our state as a model for sustainability. It will also expand their horizons; show them that there’s an Oregon outside of the I-5 corridor; and that their own potential is similarly boundless.

Students that join Passport Oregon will embark on journeys across Oregon. These adventures will feature educational opportunities such as lectures from resident conservationists and park officials, fun activities and tours, and, of course, plenty of time to hike and explore.

With this campaign, we are raising the funds necessary to purchase a van that will accommodate our growing organization and allow our kids to witness all of the great possibilities that Oregon has to offer.  Please help students across our great state see firsthand what makes this place so uniquely special. Please help us launch this project. To support us you may follow the link to make a donation (https://www.aplos.com/aws/give/PassportOregon/general).
