Parkinson's Alzh/Stage 4 Cancer

Parkinson's and Alzheimers are real diseases that cause a real fight.

My name is Fannie Esther, but this story is not about me, it's about my mom by law and grandmother by blood, Lydia Esther Santiago. Born in Puerto Rico in 1933 she lived a life of maternal abandonment, familial betrayal, abuse, scorn, neglect, suicide and upfront exposure to prostitution through paternal upbringing. Lydia married for purposes of escape blessed only by the fact that she was given two beautiful daughters, one of which would later follow in the footsteps of her father and take her own life through an act of suicide (photo: Deceased). That was my mother.

Despite her sad beginnings and lack of parental guidance she proudly made the decision to come to the states and become a caretaker of others. She would not allow life to beat her down. Not only did she raise her children, grandchildren, one of which died of Lukemia, and great-grandchildren, she helped so many others with their children and took care of still others as a CNA (certified nursing assistant) a very physically demanding career. She did all this with a big smile on her face, never complaining. She always made others laugh and through her passion of cooking, potlucks at the hospital, and parties at home she always made sure people were full and having a good time. Everyone loved her. She had a servant's heart.

There was never a day I saw my mom sad or depressed. Until now.

When I found out the news of mom's struggle with Parkinson's and Alzeimer's I was devastated and already living in Florida with my husband and children. She had struggled for years but refused to come and live with us due to her pride, trusting that one day she would win the lottery and buy a house near us. The lottery has never come through.

This campaign is for the purpose of moving mom from Chicago to Ocala, Florida with us in our home. She will need much medical assistance and equipment as she is unable to do any basic motor functions on her own including cooking (which she loved), bathing, dressing, taking meds, walking, hygeinic functions and more. She will need a hospital bed, wheelchair, bathroom equipment and traveling expenses to get started.  And all the finance is needed immediately and used for this purpose.

She is so happy when she is with us but her caretaker who is only able to be there part time says she is depressed the moment we are gone. This money would help us to fulfill her inner dream of being with her family and allowing us the pleasure of returning the joy that she has given to so many others over her lifetime.

To say that I would be grateful or the joy it would bring to have her with me is inexpressible. She would thrive here with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. I want to give back all the love, time and care that she gave to every other person that had the pleasure of being in her life.

I'm asking you to be a part of it. My gratitude to you will carry into eternity.
