My best friend Cam Montgomery recently underwent treatment for recurrent lymphoma. Like the warrior she is, with a combination of chemo and surgery she was recently given the best news: She's in full remission.
However, during the arduous process of treatment, her employer decided to terminate her for missing too many days due to the ill effects of chemo. Not only that, but their promise to continue providing her with insurance until the end of September was reneged without notice two weeks before the cut off point.
Now, what should be the most joyous weeks of her life - her first cancer-free ones, are heavy with the anxiety of losing her insurance. Her final post-op checkup where she was declared in remission was not covered by the prematurely cut-off insurance, nor were the medications she needs to see her through the first few months post-surgery. That doesn't even touch the outstanding medical bills from her treatment.
In order to pay for the final appointment, plus fill prescriptions that should have been covered by her policy, she needs close to $8,000. I'm asking for $10,000 to cover any late fees that might arise in the interim, and any other costs associated with insurance-less recovery from major surgery and months of cancer treatment.
Cam is a vital part of this community. She's the most giving, generous, supportive person I've ever known. She deserves to spend her first few months of remission out from under the crippling burden of this financial obligation. If there's anything you can do to help, we would be so grateful.
