Molly's Diabetic Alert Dog Fund

Donation protected
10 years ago my daughter, Molly, was diagnosed with Type 1 Diabetes.  Throughout those 10 years we have often battled with unpredictable lows that have threatened her life at times.  We have been thankful that we have been successful in helping her manage those crazy blood sugars but sometimes as you are in the balancing act, you can have life threatening lows.

About a week ago, while we were in Hawaii, we got the call that all parents dread.  Our daughter was having a seizure from low blood sugars due to failing mechanical devices that we had put our faith into to give us accurate readings.  When readings are wrong, dosing insulin can be leathel.  After 2 ambulance rides to 2 differerent ERs our daughter was stabalized.  Praise God.

She has a condition called Hypoglycemic Unawareness, which means that she is unable to sense the blood sugars dropping.  This is very dangerous for any diabetic.

The fears remain. I, her mother, up all night trying to make sure my precious daughter is safe.  A young girl of only 16 years, afraid of not waking up.  These are things no one should have to face, especially when there is something that can relieve these unpredictable events.  Too many lows can have lasting effects to her overall health and well being, and puts her at risk for more life threatening episodes.

Our goal is get Molly a diabetic alert dog who will sense the sugars before they even get in the danger zone.  This will allow our daughter to feel safe when she puts her head down to sleep.  The dog is highly trained to alert her if the sugar is still safe but dropping into an unsafe direction.  If for chance our daughter would not respond, the dog is trained to alert another nearby family member or even contact 911.  This could save her life.

The dog also becomes her ticket to living a normal teenage life...she can take the dog with her everywhere she goes and know that she will have help.  I know God is looking out for her, but sometimes God uses furry animals to help when we can't always see danger coming.

The cost of these dogs is $15,000 because of all the specific training involved and the fees of the companies who provide good scent dogs for disabilities.  This is a cost that is far beyond our reach at this time.  As soon as we reach this goal we will be able to get on the waiting list for one.  Actually one dog named Teddy just came up and because of the severity of our situation they said they may be able to get Molly her dog a lot sooner, so we need to raise the funding ASAP.

This means so much to our family that you are all praying and contributing so our daughter can live a full and happy life.  Thank you so much for taking the time to hear our story!
