SAY THEIR NAMES

Oscar Grant, Trayvon Martin, Sandra Bland, Eric Garner, Michael Brown, Alton Sterling, Philando Castile, Terrance Crutcher--names in the news and in social media often preceded by hashtags.  What did these people have in common? They were needlessly murdered in the name of “law and order”. These people were our sons, brothers, fathers and our sister.  Their names are known, but what about the ones we never hear about?

We have watched families and communities across our country grieve and march in protest. We have witnessed the sobs of a 16 year-old son crying out for his father.  We have seen these victims vilified by the media in attempts to make the case that the senseless murders of unarmed black men are somehow justified and acceptable…it’s NOT.

We as a community, as mothers, must stand – together – now. The WORLD is watching.

OUR MISSION

Fifty-two years after the Civil Rights Act was passed, our black sons and daughters are still at risk.  In spite of Dr. King’s dream, African-Americans continue to be judged by the color of their skin and not the content of their character.  We are the village and therefore must unite to ensure a brighter future for our children.

Through social and economic empowerment, awareness through education, and activism through peaceful protest, MOBS MOVE PHILLY stands on the legacy of those who came before us and will continue in the fight to eliminate racial injustice, police brutality and violence in our community.

THE MARCH

MOBS Move Philly will march on Sunday, October 16, 2016 at noon along with seven cities across the country in a show of UNITY to bring awareness to our cause.  In Philadelphia, we expect at least 8,000 to join us in peaceful protest and in memory of those we’ve lost.  The March will commence at Cecil B. Moore Ave. and follow a route along Broad Street ending at the Municipal Services Building where there will be a program to propose actionable solutions.

WE URGENTLY NEED YOUR SUPPORT!

DUE TO RECENT EVENTS, WE EXPECT OUR NUMBERS TO GROW EVEN MORE!

We’ve obtained a permit from the City of Philadelphia and the cost is $6,000 sound/staging are $6,000. In short, we need to raise at least $12,000 by 10/10/16 to cover our expenses.

MOBS Move Philly has partnered with Empowering Single Moms, Inc., an organization with 501C3 status, making your donations tax deductible.  We ask that you join us in creating a safer place for our sons and daughters.
