Dave and Red Surviving the Swim

Thanks for helping!!

The Idea: Earlier this year a few mates decided that to try and delay the dad bods for a few more years we would enter challenging long distance events biannually.
The intial race, the Canberra 100 (http://www.cbr100challenge.com.au/)
was gruelling, painful and downright silly. Even though we won the race (first 3 person team to complete the full course) we felt we could have gone through all that pain for not just self satisfaction but for something more. We didnt raise any money for anything and believed it was definately an oppurtinity missed when we heard about some other great causes people raised money for.

Progress: Since that time very close friends of ours Stacey and Michael have had a real tough time losing their first child through stillbirth. As close friends it was agonising to watch and feel helpless with their recovery. Little Rocco would have been a great child and very much loved by his amazing parents.
It was great however to see Michael and Stacey get professional counselling and help from Sids and Kids to help them through a very difficult time.

The Charity: SIDS and Kids is a high profile and well respected national not-for-profit organisation with a highly successful history in health promotion, bereavement support, advocacy and research.SIDS and Kids is dedicated to saving babies and children’s lives through the elimination of sudden and unexpected infant deaths during pregnancy, birth and childhood, supporting bereaved families and funding research into stillbirth.

The next Event: On December 4th this year, Red and I will be swimming the Bondi to Bronte 2.4km ocean swim. Although under 10 champion swimmers we have both neglected the pool for a number of years and its taken some sort of effort to get back in a train weekly down at the YMCA. After a few months grinding out the laps and a 1.5km pool time trial a few weeks back we are semi-confident of not drowning and arriving safely onto Bronte beach.

The Goal: This time however we would like to raise some money and give it back to a charity that has helped our friends out so much this year and in memory of little Rocco. So please give up some coin, $5, $10, $50 whatever you would like, if not for charity do it to see Red and I in Budgie smugglers pissing ourselves with nervous laughter every week down at the pool swimming laps like some creepy old men and then s@#t scared on the beach down at Bondi in early december.

Thanks for reading and spread the word
