This is a story of love, friendship, and unselfish charity.
Ilene and her partner, Beverly, were the loves of each other’s lives. Beverly passed before they could officially marry. As a longtime client, Ilene came to visit us at Chalmers Jewelers because she had decided to buy herself the wedding set she knew Beverly would have wanted her to have. We all wept tears of joy as Ilene proudly put on her new rings which were a physical representation of Ilene and Beverly’s love. Everyone present that day knew what those rings meant to Ilene.
Alejandra has been friends with Ilene for many years. Ilene describes Alejandra as one of the nicest people she knows. Alejandra is a hard-working single mother who would do anything for her friends and family. Alejandra’s daughter, Ali, is a wonderfully gifted, diligent student who has been accepted into medical school at UW-Madison. Ali was up for a scholarship that would have helped her afford tuition for medical school, but unfortunately, didn’t get the scholarship. When Ali shared with her mother and Ilene that she would have to withdraw from school, Ilene would hear none of it.
In one of the most unselfish acts imaginable, Ilene removed the wedding set that meant so much to her and handed it to Alejandra to sell back to Chalmers Jewelers to help pay for Ali’s tuition. Ilene is well known to the staff at Chalmers so you can imagine there wasn’t a dry eye in the room when Alejandra informed us of Ilene’s gift. That’s when we decided to spring into action on Ali’s behalf.
Our goal is to help raise enough money for Ali to pay tuition for medical school, AND for Ilene to keep the ring she so dearly cherishes. We are calling on our friends to help get the word out. If at least one of these stories resonates with you, will you help us help Ali?
