Big Sur Natural Birth Midwife Fund!

Thank you for giving your time to read this and for your consideration in helping our family! We are a married couple with two children living in Big Sur, California. I am currently pregnant with our third child with an expected due date on September 24th, 2016. We are planning a home birth and have not been able to raise the money necessary for the cost of the midwife. As our due date approaches, we have decided to reach out and ask for aid in making our plans possible for a natural, healthy, safe birth for our baby and me.
This will be my third natural birth. Our first son, Sage, was born at Mountain Midwifery Center in Englewood, CO after a whopping 80 hour labor with no pain medication. He was in posterior position and we were able to spin him around for delivery by breaking my waters at 75 hours of labor, after which he was born naturally, safely, and beautifully into my husband’s arms. Our second son, Kyan, was born here at home in Big Sur in a bathtub after only four and a half hours of labor, also naturally with no pain medication. It was such a beautiful experience for all of us!
Our wonderful midwife and her assistant were knowledgeable and we valued their presence at Kyan's birth for the level of safety and comfort that they provided for us. We are currently under their care again for this upcoming baby. I value giving birth in this way, in the comfort of a safe place such as our own home, because I am able to fully experience the magic of bringing life into this world without altering the consciousness of the baby or myself. The human body has been designed to give birth in this natural way, and our family trusts in this. We believe that birth, a transformative life event, is empowering and safe with the aid from an experienced birth professional.
A little insight into our lifestyle:
We live off-grid on the south coast of Big Sur in a remote area, about 50 miles from town in either direction. We are able to carry on a simple life here, caretaking a beautiful piece of property overlooking the Pacific Ocean and managing an organic orchard, greenhouse, gardens, and free-range chickens. In this busy, hectic modern world where we often bypass the things in life which bring true happiness, we have been making the effort since having our children to focus on those things which bring joy, and we try to set a model for our children to be inspired by nature and the goodness of the earth. This has meant sacrificing money as we live on our monthly stipend and devote our attention to the property and giving back to the land. Our children, ages 5 and 2, can identify nearly all of the wild plants in this area, including awareness of poisonous species. They also have extensive knowledge about gardening and orchard care, take pride in treating our chickens with respect, and help us process the organic food which we grow.
We write and create music to share these philosophies that we live by, hoping to reverberate some positive change throughout our unique and complex world. We have already recorded a self-produced album that can be downloaded for a donation here: Humans Being - Where the Water Goes . We are hoping to record another album this upcoming winter.
Our family truly appreciates help with funding our third child’s birth, and any contributions will be extremely helpful and greatly appreciated! Our goal of $7000 will pay for the midwifery team (who also delivered our second son at home), and other birth-related supplies and expenses. We are hoping to raise this money as soon as possible, with about one month to go before the due date. Any amount will help us tremendously!
