Camie's Medical Flight Home

On Friday, December 4th, Camie Nicolette Smedley (25) was in a devastating car accident in northern California. She was life-flighted to Santa Rosa Memorial hospital. There she underwent surgery to remove part of her skull to alleviate brain swelling, her spleen was removed, both lungs were collapsed due to multiple broken ribs, her liver and one kidney were lacerated, she had a severe contusion of the right hand, several broken bones in her spine and several other broken bones. Camie was on a ventilator for 2 1/2 weeks, and was completely unresponsive for about 1 1/2 months.
Since this time, Camie has made consistent and measurable progress, as she works toward recovery. She is able to respond to commands, has speech therapy 3 times a week, and is scheduled to have the bone flap that was removed from her skull in December replaced on November 17th. After a 2-week post-op observation period, she will be transported to a rehabilitation hospital closer to her parents, who reside in Jacksonville, FL.
Camie is a loving and devoted mother of 2 young boys: Christopher(4), and Elijah(2). She was working 3 jobs to try to make ends meet at the time of the accident, doing everything she could to ensure a good future for her children.
Camie's mother, Amy, has been by her side each day since the accident; working with her, encouraging her, doing range of motion exercises, reading to her, playing music and movies for her, and doing everything within her power to bring Camie to a full recovery. Her father, Kent, has been traveling constantly between the hospital in California and his business in Jacksonville, FL, attempting to help in any way possible. Her sister, Kaitie, has traveled to California to be with her sister numerous times, while continuing to work toward her bachelor's degree in music performance at Stetson University in DeLand, FL.
At this time, we are attempting to raise funds for the medical flight, provided by the charitable organization Grace on Wings, that is needed to transport Camie in December. The cost is $25,000, which is solely the cost for fuel; the medical technicians and pilots donate their time to transport patients. Any and all help in this matter is greatly appreciated, no donation amount is too small; every little bit gets us one step closer to the goal of Camie being in a hospital where she has the opportunity to achieve a complete recovery, while she is surrounded by her family and encouraged by their love for her.
