Perry Family

Hello all! As you probably already know, Louisiana has had a horrible flooding experience. Cynthia Perry, with Louisiana Virtual Charter Academy has been a part of this tragedy. We are honored to have the opportunity to help Cynthia and her family move forward from this terrible experience. Cynthia has said that gift cards to Home Depot, Lowes, and Wal-Mart would be helpful in rebuilding and refurnishing their home.

Below is a link to a registry that the Perry family has at Wal-Mart. If you choose to donate money you can do that here, if you would rather send gift cards or things from the registry I have also listed Cynthia's address. Below you will find a letter from Cynthia describing what her family has gone through and what they continue to face. Please feel free to share with your family and friends who may also want to help Cynthia and her family.

Dear Arkansas Virtual Academy,

When Scott reached out to us asking to adopt our family I felt relief for the first time in weeks.

Our family home was completely destroyed - down to bare studs - in the 1000 year flood that occurred in Louisiana recently. Meteorologists are calling this event one that will only happen every 1000 years. Our home took on 4 foot of muddy river and sewer water. Our home is not even in a flood zone and we did not have flood insurance.

We are part of Louisiana Virtual Charter - LAVCA . Our family consists of, a dad: Tim, a mom: Cynthia - a FASL @ LAVCA, a recently returned missionary, 20 year old: Benjamin, and a LAVCA, high school senior: Emma. We have three dogs that we love dearly: Fozzy Bear, Rosemary, and Everett - an 80lb puppy.

The Flood: We never thought that the flood waters would reach our home. We woke up, the morning of the flood to a driveway filling with water, our neighbors were screaming to their family members to hurry and move cars to higher ground. We were able to move and save our cars too. We spent less than an hour getting our pets and a few suitcases of valuables and clothing to our cars. We had to wade out of our house by the end of the hour. We evacuated to a friend's home but shortly realized that her home would be lost to the flood too. We evacuated again to a second friend's home and we were finally safe from the flood. Very few houses were spared.

After the FLOOD: We are now staying with family because housing is not really available. My sister and her husband have taken us in. We are staying in one bed room of her 900 square foot home with one bathroom. We are so grateful for her willingness to help.
