Miracle on the Hudson PBL

The Miracle on the Hudson Project is an innovative K-5 PBL (Problem Based Learning) project that was inspired by a teacher STEMmersion trip last summer.  During STEMmersion, teachers from Cabarrus County School went to different buisnesses to learn more about their products and STEM careers.  One of the locations we visited was the Carolina Aviation Museum in Charlotte, NC where we learned about the history of aviation, flight simulation, and Flight 1549 which became known as the Miracle on the Hudson.

During the first half of the year, our students will complete different PBL projects to help them learn about the different STEM connections to the aviation industry but specifically how science, engineering, and math played a role that day.  Students will also be applying what they learn to inventing new products and solutions to help prevent another devasting crash,

Our project will culmnate by hosting "A Night at the Museum" with the Carolina Aviation Museum where we will showcase our students hard work. 

We have many amazing speakers that would love to come talk to our students but we need to raise many for travel and hotel expenses.   The money used for this project will go towards covering their traveling expenses, materials for our projects, and the cost of sending all of our 975 students to the Aviation Museum to see the actual plane from the Hudson.  Our first guest speaker is set to come in October if we can pull our funds together.  All of the money raised here will directly benefit our students in grades K-5.
