This is Sr. Wayne County Jail Chaplain, 80-year old Almeta Bastities with her husband in front of their house on Detroit's westside.
Some friends of the chaplain's have come together to set up this page to help with some critical home repairs: the roof needs to be repaired or replaced, fumigation services are needed, flooring and painting and other minor repairs are needed as well. We are also open to in-kind help.
Chaplain Almeta has volunteered with the Wayne County jail for the last 50 years. Rain, sleet, snow, and heat she shows up to pray, sing, comfort and minister to those behind bars. Because she's without a car, most days Chaplain Almeta takes the bus or gets a ride with a fellow chaplain. And once a month, she and her husband prepare meals for the needy and homeless in their neighborhood.
