Help Daniel Fight Graves Disease

My name is Amy Donnelly. I am raising money for my son, Daniel. Daniel has Graves Disease and needs to have Orbital Decompression Surgery . He has some insurance, but his part of the hospital bill alone will be $3000.00 and he has to pay this prior to the surgery. The doctor said he will be off at least two weeks for recovery. He has been hesitant to have the surgery due to the financial burden that it will create. Surgery, however, has become necessary to reduce the pressure on his optic nerve. He is scheduled for surgery at UAB on October 21st. Daniel's story of his journey with Graves Disease is below.
In January of 2013, Daniel got the flu. He recovered but could not seem to get rid of the cough that he developed while he was sick. About a month later he became sick again, and this time it was pneumonia. It was very unusual for Daniel to be sick at all, but to have the flu and pneumonia back to back was very odd.
Over the course of the next few months, Daniel lost 60 lbs. He became antsy and nervous. He couldn't sit still and he had to move his legs constantly. He had trouble sleeping and his eyes began to bulge. People began to ask him if he had Graves Disease.
Daniel finally went to the doctor. He did a thyroid test and referred him to an endocrinologist who diagnosed him with Graves Disease. He was 24 years old.
Over the course of the past few years his disease has greatly affected his eyes and eye sight. The disease is causing his eyes to buldge and put pressure on his optic nerve. His doctor, Dr. Woode, has recommended that he have orbital decompression surgery .
Daniel has always been a hard worker. He is self supportative and rarely ever asks for help of any kind. He is a good man with a kind heart. He always helps other people when he can, It is for these reasons and many more that we would be so appreciative of any support that he recieves to relieve some of the financial burden that his surgery and recovery create.
