Helping Hand to Those in Need

I'm Greek/Brit from the UK and I'm travelling to Greece on November 15th, 2016 to volunteer and help in the humanitarian crisis affecting thousands of refugees, who have been displaced, are fleeing war and are on uncertain journeys.

While my trip is fully self funded, I'd like to raise funds in order to make a further contribution by purchasing essential items - primary food, shoes, clothing, medical and hygiene supplies. I will purchase these much needed items on arrival in Greece and distribute them accordingly.

Every bit raised will make a huge difference in alleviating their ongoing struggle... dry clothing, shoes and socks to replace worn and sodden items for their long, perilous journey. Much needed basic medical and hygeine supplies. Toys, colouring books which could bring a smile to traumatised children, stranded in camps, facing uncertainty.

I've followed this heartwrenching crisis for over a year now, through mainstream and social media.

The number of refugees and migrants arriving to Greece by sea peaked last year, and has declined in 2016. Yet over 50,000 people are stranded in shelters and detention facilities throughout the beleaguered country following Macedonia shutting its borders in early March.

I will maintain a log of all purchases and post details of their distribution here and on my blog throughout my trip and I welcome any inquiries. I will be adding a link to this blog on arrival.

As I said, completely all of the funds (except 5% GoFundMe fee) will be spent on supplies for refugees and we will try to visit as many refugee camps as possible (as much as the funds will allow).
